Deep Tissue Massage with The Massage Therapy Center of Loudoun

Loudoun Massage therapy Center specializes in clinical deep tissue massage therapy.  Deep tissue massage is a type of massage therapy that focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue.  It is especially helpful for chronically tense and contracted areas such as stiff necks, low back tightness, and sore shoulders.  Some of the same strokes are used as classic massage

therapy, but the movement is slower and the pressure is deeper and concentrated on areas of tension and pain.  This technique is always done to patient tolerance as this should be a healing and comfortable treatment.

When there is chronic muscle tension or injury, there are usually adhesions (bands of painful, rigid tissue) in muscles, tendons, and ligaments.  Adhesions can block circulation and cause pain, limited movement, and inflammation.  Deep tissue massage works by physically breaking down these adhesions to relieve pain and restore normal movement.

Myofascial Release Trigger Point Therapy with The Massage Therapy Center of Loudoun

Myofascial Release technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion. This essential element is the gentle pressure) applied slowly causing the fascia to elongate.

Trauma, inflammatory responses, and/or surgical procedures create Myofascial restrictions that can produce adhesions on pain sensitive structures that do not show up in many of the standard tests (x-rays, MRI, CAT scans, EMG, etc.) Trigger Point

The use of Myofascial Release allows us to look at each patient as a unique individual. Our one-on-one therapy sessions are hands-on treatments during which our therapists use a multitude of Myofascial Release techniques and movement therapy. We promote independence through education in proper body mechanics and movement, self treatment instruction, enhancement of strength, improved flexibility, and postural and movement awareness.

The defining symptom of a trigger point is referred pain; that is, trigger points usually send their pain to some other site. This is an extremely misleading phenomenon and is the reason conventional treatments for pain so often fail. It’s a mistake to assume that the problem is at the place that hurts!

Travell and Simons’s research has shown that trigger points are the primary cause of pain 75% of the time and are at least a part of nearly every pain problem.

Trigger points cause headaches, neck and jaw pain, low back pain, tennis elbow, and carpal tunnel syndrome. They are the source of the pain in such joints as the shoulder, wrist, hip, knee, and ankle that is so often mistaken for arthritis, tendinitis, bursitis, or ligament injury.

Trigger points also cause symptoms as diverse as dizziness, earaches, sinusitis, nausea, heartburn, false heart pain, heart arrhythmia, genital pain, and numbness in the hands and feet. Even fibromyalgia may have its beginnings with myofascial trigger points.

Swedish Massage at the Massage Therapy Center of Loudoun

One of the most commonly taught and well-known massage techniques, Swedish massage is a vigorous system of treatment designed to energize the body by stimulating circulation.Swedish Massage
Five basic strokes, all flowing toward the heart, are used to manipulate the soft tissues of the body. The disrobed client is covered by a sheet, with only the area being worked on exposed. Therapists use a combination of kneading, rolling, vibrational, percussive, and tapping movements, with the application of oil, to reduce friction on the skin.
The many benefits of Swedish massage may include generalized relaxation, dissolution of scar tissue adhesions, and improved circulation, which may speed healing and reduce swelling from injury.
